Both Sybase, Inc. and IBM chose Monotype's WorldType solution for
inclusion in a variety of their products. A database developer with an
international clientele, Sybase required a single Unicode font that supported
every character in the Unicode 3.0 standard. In contrast, IBM required that the
font support a large number of new and legacy character sets to be used in its
broad range of hardware and software products, including OS/2 Wrap products.
The effectiveness of the single-font solution lies in the fact that it provides
broad Unicode coverage while avoiding the added complexity needed to handle
multiple font modules.

Further Consideration
Because of the global language coverage of WorldType fonts, applications can
display text in languages not ordinarily supported by the software platform.
Multiple-font solutions can typically offer a higher degree of typograhic
sophistication (e.g. alternative glyphs). With newer technologies, however, it
is now becoming possible to offer these features within a single font solution.
Used judiciously, either the single-font or multiple-font solution can
effectively provide the Unicode support needed by the customer. Monotype
can provide any font solution with full Unicode 3.0 compliance.
